TIPS FOR PARENTS Translation
TIPS FOR PARENTS
Here are some tips to make the most of Ilinniarutit! TV with your children
Make time together
Make some routine time to explore the site together. Sing a few songs after breakfast, or watch a
short film in the day or evening, and read a book or tell a story before bedtime. Establishing a
routine can make practicing language an enjoyable everyday activity.
Sing Along
Singing is a great way to learn any language, and most children love to sing. It is a fun way to
familiarize yourself with the sounds and rhythms of the language.
Download a book
There are many books available for free download at Ilinniartutit! TV. Download a book and
read together. Encourage your child to practice reading out loud and always be positive and
supportive if they make any mistakes.
Ask questions
If you’re watching a movie or reading a book with your child, ask questions like “what do you
think happens next?” or “how do you think the character felt?” These types of questions
encourage reflection and creative thinking.
Have fun!
Ask your kids to tell their own stories and spend some time telling stories to each other. One way
children learn language is by speaking and listening.
